Doc Martin Filming in Port Isaac 2013

Filming of the  Doc Martin series 6 took place in Port Isaac in 2013. The actors and film crew watched by the many tourists to the 'fictional village of Portwenn' during March to July.

The show is filmed in and around the Cornish village of Portwenn and the cold manner of Doc Martin, the village GP.

The series starting with Martin and Louisa's Wedding followed a disasterous honeymoon. The series end with Louisa flying away to Spain with baby James with their marriage in crisis.

 The main characters in series 6 were Martin Clunes as Dr Martin Ellingham, Caroline Catz as Louisa Glasson who marries Doc Martin, Ian McNeice as Bert Large, Joe Absolom as Al Large, Eileen Atkins as Ruth Ellingham, Jessica Ransom as Morwenna Newcross and John Marquez as PC Penhale, the hopeless village policeman.

Most of the filming locations the same as in previous series in and around Port Isaac and North Cornwall. The Edge restaurant was used this season, for filming of the radio station.

Doc Martin and The Edge

In series 6 The Edge restaurant was used as  Radio Portwenn, the radio station, showing the glorious views of the Cornish coastline and sea in the back ground.

 Before filming at The Edge, the walls of the upper restaurant were painted from white to grey, to improve lighting for fiming. And a temporary film set was built in the restaurant for film day. When filming was over, it was all put back to how it started, and the restaurant was back to serving our customers as normal that evening. We at The Edge will be watching the new series of Doc Martin with particular interest.

Martin Clunes referred to The Edge Restaurant in a Radio Times article Aug.2013 as a little eatery overlooking the Port Isaac Bay and Port Gavern serves hearty English grub, including free-range produce from the neighboring farms and freshly caught fish from the ocean. Clunes said “It's the restaurant at the top of the village where we have our wrap party at the end of each season,” explains Clunes. “They buy the food locally, in season, and support ethical farming. The views are amazing.”  

At The Edge we have a 'Doc Martin wall of signatures' on the front of the bar, with the actors signatures written on the slate bar front. Call in at The Edge and enjoy a snack or a meal where Doc Martin has been filmed in Portwenn, real name Port Isaac.
