Port Isaac is once more the centre of filming for series
4 of the hit ITV series of Doc Martin. Filming of the
series is set to
take place over the next 4 months, so visitors to
Port
Isaac may be lucky and see some action taking place.
March 2010
The successful ITV series of Doc Martin starring Martin Clunes
is made and filmed in the ficticious village of Portwenn
(Port Wenn) in Cornwall.
All the filming for Doc Martin is in and around the
fishing village of Port Isaac in Cornwall,
which is called Portwenn in the series.
Doc Martin is a very popular British ITV comedy drama but it has been
syndicated around the world giving it world wide
success. Starring Martin Clunes as a hapless, grumpy doctor
for Portwenn. Before becoming the village doctor he was
a surgeon who suddenly developed a phobia to blood,
making his career as a surgeon impossible so he retrained as a GP in this small community
of Portwenn in Cornwall. The doctor is called Martin
Ellingham but the locals call him Doc Martin.
Caroline
Catz is co-star playing the part of the village school
teacher in Portwenn. The series is filmed in and around Port Isaac
and
was created by Dominic Minghella.
Filming for Doc Martin is all in and around Port Isaac in Cornwall, with many key scenes filmed inside a local barn which
hides film sets. Key
buildings and locations in the Doc Martin programs being easily
seen on a short walk around the fishing village, from
Thyme Cottage to The Old School House to Wenn House(Wenn house is now The Bay Hotel) and
the harbour of Port Isaac. As well as many other buildings featuring in shots on
film such as The Edge restaurant
(although it was under previous ownership and called the Blue Tomato at the time of
filming).
Doc Martin
Series 3 centred around a
tuberculosis outbreak, a food poisoning scare and a
blossoming romance.
What will Doc Martin series 4 bring?
The next series of the hit
Doc Martin ITV comedy drama show will be series 4
and is due to be filmed in summer 2011.
Eight new episodes are to be recorded in the fictitious
location of Port Isaac, Portwenn in Cornwall.
The key characters in the series
remain throughout. Doc Martin Ellingham played by Martin
Clunes. Louisa Glasson (played by
Caroline Catz) is wooed by the doctor. Joan
Norton a widow in the village. Bert Large the local
plumber in Portwenn. And PC Mark Mylow the law keeper in
the village but with plenty of personal problems.
Doc Martin is set in Portwenn and filmed in Port Isaac.
And when filming the series, the village carries on as normal as
much as possible. Although obviously lots of people choose to watch
the scenes in various locations around the village of Port Wenn.
With the new series now confirmed for filming in Port Isaac, you could be there when they film and see the action
first hand. But watching filming often doesn't make alot of
sence until you see the whole story on ITV. So make sit
and enjoy the action whilst sipping your coffee in one
of the restaurants in Port Isaac.
